The Southern voter has delivered a thundering slap to the United National Party (UNP) which contested against the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA). The UNP used this election-platform to launch a conspiracy against the country. They also used the election platform to carry out a smear campaign against the president and war heroes who saved this country from terrorism. The purpose of that vicious campaign was to set the back-ground to produce the president and war heroes before the international war crime tribunal. It is at this provincial poll that the UNP leader went to an unprecedented extent using the election campaign to label the true patriotic citizens as traitors. Due to those treacherous actions on the part of the UNP leader, the heroic and progressive Southern voter who always take independent and intelligent decisions have shown them the way to the political cemetery.
The JVP; the other partner in the conspiracy against the country too received a humiliating defeat at the Southern provincial poll. In the previous Provincial Council, JVP had 14 seats but it was reduced to mere 3 seats at this election. It is due to this partnership with the UNP against the country, JVP lost 50% of its voter base in the Tissamaharama polling division which is the bastion of JVP.
Something more about JVP’s “extra-ordinary performance” must be mentioned at this juncture. JVP contested the Eastern provincial poll in this year with 81 seats in all provincial councils. There had been provincial polls in all 08 provinces except the North and up to now, JVP could mange to receive 8 seats only. In other words, they have lost 72 seats.
Is this not a rejection of JVP by the patriotic citizens in the country due to the fact they have given up the ‘great savior role’ or the role of ‘Mahaushada’?
The patriotic Southern voters have very clearly shown through this election result that they are ready to take the country forward and will not leave any opportunity to the conspirators to betray the country again.
