The progressive, grateful and patriotic people of this country have helped Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha; the presidential candidate of the United People’s Freedom Alliance to achieve an unequivocal and extraordinary victory at the 6th Presidential poll held on 26th January 2010. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha achieved this victory by obtaining 1.8 million votes and that is 58.88% of the total votes cast above his opponent.
The people of this country gave a mandate to Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha in the 2005 presidential poll to establish a unitary country by defeating the separatist terrorism of “LTTE”. On 18th May 2009, the valiant armed forces of this country led by Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha could eliminate the “LTTE” separatist terrorism which has gripped this land for more than three decades.
Accordingly, President Mahinda Rajapaksha fulfilled his main pledge given to the people in the 2005 presidential poll just within three and half months from coming to power.
President Mahinda Rajapaksha decided to call for this presidential poll two years before the end of his term of office as he wished to secure a fresh mandate from the people to develop the country after the victory.
However, an unusual situation arose in the country after handing over the nominations for the presidential poll. The opposition including UNP and JVP instead of fielding their own candidates, decided to field a “common candidate” due to the conspiracies of the foreign forces.
This unholy alliance led by the foreign conspiracies chose the former Chief of Defense Staff as its candidate as a long-term strategy. This loathsome and treacherous alliance consisting of Ranil, Somawansa, Mangala, Hakeem and Monoganeshan who did everything possible to halt the operations against “LTTE” terrorists came together in this manner to deceive the patriotic people of this country and thereby to overturn the war victories.
In the same manner, the vicious foreign forces who are furious with Mahinda Rajapaksha as he eliminated their mercenaries the “LTTE”; they were conspiring their level best to oust the president from power by facilitating this unholy alliance to come to power. In pursuant to this conspiracy, Ranil-Somawansa-Hakeem-Manoganeshan gang used this presidential election to launch an operation with the blessing of foreign powers to sabotage the forward march of the country. Also, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) the (a)political front of “LTTE” too joined with these operations at the latter stage.
It is due to those reasons that this presidential poll was extremely crucial to Sri Lanka. So we salute our voters and are grateful to all peace loving patriotic people of this land who voted for Mahinda Rajapaksha at this critical juncture by defeating the vicious operations of traitors and thereby paved the way for initiating the “Rebuilding the Victorious Nation” program.
