Chairman of the National Freedom Front, Mr. Wimal Weerawansa (MP) pointed out that the presidential poll results clearly indicate that the UPFA would be able to muster 2/3 majority in the forthcoming general lection. He expressed those views at a press briefing held in the Party Head Quarters at Battaramulla, Colombo today (29).
Analyzing the 2010 presidential election result he said that, “On the basis of this result, it can be presumed that UPFA might secure 133 seats. Those 133 seats could be received in the following manner:
UPFA UNP
Colombo 11 08
Gampaha 12 6
Kalutara 7 3
Kandy 7 5
Matale 3 3
N’Eliya 3 4
Galle 7 3
Hambantota 5 2
Jaffna 2 7
Vanni 1 5
B’colla 1 4
Ampara 3 4
Trincomalee 1 3
Kurunagala 10 5
Puttalam 5 3
A’pura 6 3
P’naruwa 4 1
Badulla 5 3
Monaragala 4 1
Ratnapura 7 3
Kegalle 6 3
and from the national list 17 totaling 133 seats.
He further said “that this number could be further increased as general election is to be held soon after this great victory. If we are to increase 1 seat for each district in this manner, we will be able to get 149 seats. So securing a 2/3 majority is an achievable reality and that will help establish a strong and stable parliament which could then take straight-forward , accurate and farsighted decisions to lead the country in the forward march”. Said Mr. Weerawansa
